Past Continuous Tense: represents an action which was going on at some point in the past. It is often used with past simple.

Affirmative

Interrogative

Negative

He was working.

Was he working?

He was not working.

She was working.

Was she working?

She was not working.

It was working.

Was it working?

It was not working.

They were working.

Were they working?

They were not working.

You were working.

Were you working?

You were not working.

I was working.

Was I working?

I was not working.

We were working.

Were we working?

We were not working.

 

Formula: Subject + was/were+ present participle (verb with -ing) + any complement

Examples:

She was doing her home task when the guests arrived.

I was reading a book when the bell rang.

They were going to school when the storm hit.

Exercise: Complete the sentences with the correct form of Past Continuous tense. Simple Past verb has been underlined.
